Project #7

In 2014, I went to Chile by myself for a week to visit my older sister. On that visit, I bought these beautiful over the knee boots that with time I loved to hate. Why? They weren't so popular then. When I am wearing something I  am not totally comfortable with and I see faces turning to me in weird ways, it makes me feel funny. The boots were awesome, but that was too fashion forward to me, especially because I call those boots 'hooker boots.' Not only that, the boots I bought gave you the option of folding, which was great but then I felt like 'Puss with Boots.' HAHAHA

Long story short, I decided to cut the devils.

After

Fashion is strange to me sometimes. I cut the boots, now the style is in the US, but I know I would not wear them anyway. I think they look great now, and all I have to do is sew them. I tried bringing them to various shoe repair places so a professional could do it. That is not a job people do in Maine apparently. Therefore, I came to my own rescue. I am sure it could have been done in Colombia, but I am not there.

Project #6

Project #6 is the continuation of Project #2. Just on a big scale. Unfortunately, I took a few pictures and not much of what I did, but to be honest, the process does not differ from Project #1 nor #2.

These chairs came with a different fabric, that got stained over the years with the little ones running around. I decided to give it a fresh look and one that the girls could not stain.
I did choose a great brown fabric for it. However, I got tired of the look.

I decided to take it off the chairs to install the new one so the chair would not get bulky.
This is the before
First, we bought a new area rug. A bit grayish to match the new light gray fabric
Then, one by one I reupholstered the rest of the chairs
The end result, a much lighter dining room

One Happy Latina.

Project #5 Reveal

Big day today. Now I can show the reveal. I forgot to mention we also bought medicine cabinets at Home Depot to match the vanities and mirrors since we needed that extra storage space, and the ugly mirrors in each bathroom had a small one. I also, bought new towel racks and shower heads at Walmart to replace the ugliness we had; and decided to leave the old tub (which will be covered by the curtain most of the time). I also painted white the baseboards white, which brings up the gray color; cleaned the exhaust fans which make the bathrooms clearer and painted the heater that cut me.

I used Rust-Oleum paint in white to paint the heater.
I had to sand the area first and put two coats to get rid of the rust.
I bought the frames at HomeGoods
Here is the clean exhaust fan, it looks like brand new

Project #5 Grout

Problems that come with not doing all the reno at once. As I told you before, the floor installation of the condo was done with the old (1985 old) vanity sink in place. That means that when we decided to change the vanity, the floor has a different floor on that area with the shape of the old vanity. You already know I don't know how to install tiles nor I had time to fill that up. The now-a-days standard vanities are a bit smaller and obviously do not have the same shape of the old 1985 vanities. So the plumber came up with the idea of breaking extra tiles I have from the floor installation, literally arrange them on the floor below the new vanities and make it look better than having a hole not to mention he needed that elevation to level the vanities. Now, all I had to do and he encourage me to do was to put grout in between tiles to make it look better and professional.

As a good DIY and HGTV afficionado,
I went online and checked on all the videos that explained how to grout tiles.
We had also grout left from the floor installation.
All I needed to do was to pour an eye amount of
water and mix it to look like pancake mix.

Once is in, I had to clean it with a damp towel

Project #5 Fix Baseboard

On bathroom #1 there was a big gab between the wall and the baseboard. I initially thought It was a hole made probably by the contractors who installed the floor. Then, I realized the wall had a tiny bent and wasn't leveled there. I tried a number of things and nothing worked until I found these pieces of Balsa.
I installed the balsa in a way that I was able to cut it and fill the space in between. I put the nails in, and then white caulking.
Voilá!!
Done!

Project #5 Painting

It is painting time. The toilets and vanities are installed! I decided to paint the ceiling as well because the wall color was hideous!!! The walls, I decided to go for a very light gray. Since it is 2016 and gray is the color in vogue for walls!
You can see the difference right away. Just a change of color! It makes a BIG, HUGE difference!!
I did it right! I started by applying one coat of primer. I love BEHR, I just do!
It is a very good looking paint for a very reasonable price.
I use rollers and the extension, because to me are easier to manage even in tiny places.
Also, I can reach higher places without having to be on a ladder.
Home Depot people and people on HGTV and DIY suggest to paint in W's.
I, instead, paint in lines. I always start
from the top and go all the way down. Once at the bottom I go back up.
Once I am up, all the way to the top I start my next line.
My next line starts in the middle of my first line,
I do the same, over and over and over.
I usually only paint two coats, plus primer if it was necessary on the first place.
Very few times I need a third coat.

How you like me now? How you like me now?
LOVE IT!!!
