Today I am working on the pillows on the guest bedroom. As I mentioned before, I needed to bring a pop color to the room. This pic was taken before I reupholstered the chair as you can see. The bedroom wall color is pastel green. I recently had bought a white and green quilt. I got a red coral duvet cover. If you like it, this one I got it on LLBean online. I could not believe they had this color, which I was looking for months.

For the pillows I got this coral design red fabric. I
can't remember how much fabric I brought. I want to think just one yard.
I had a bunch of
pillows around the house that I wasn't using so that made it easier.

Unfortunately, when I cut I cut it a bit too short, but I was adamant
and decided to work with what I got.
I decided to work with a pillow cover I bought on Etsy, ElemenOPillows. The owner makes wonderful envelope pillow covers, she made a business out of it. BTW, they are not expensive. You do have to have pillows or I don't remember whether she sales the pillows too. Check it out!
Anyway, I realized making envelope pillow covers wasn't difficult at all!
I measured the fabric, but as I said I forgot I needed one extra inch after I cut. Not a problem!
Sorry these pictures don't really show the work I put in it.
The measurement of the pillow is 18x18. Generally, you put an extra half inch to each side. Cutting the fabric a total of 19x19. I think this is where I made the error. Let me explain. If you are just sewing 3 sides, inserting the pillow on the cover and closing sewing by hand. It works! However, we are sewing first the edges of the longer side, bear with me, folding, and then sewing the two sides we haven't touched.
If you see the picture below, you will see the yellow fabric on top of the red. The yellow fabric is the actual pillow cover I bought online. The pillow cover is inside out. You will also notice a side sewn and two sewn edges that are almost closed. That makes the envelope pillow cover effect. One side of the fabric will measure 19in. The other side will measure 1in (edge)+Approx 13in+18in+Approx 10in+1in(2nd edge), 43in approximately. Check pattern below.
1. Sew edges.
2. Fold entire fabric making one side with one plain fabric measuring 18in. The other side should measure 18in as well overlapping fabric and both sewn edges. At this moment the fabric should measure 18in one side and 19in the other.
3. You should put pins to make sure the fabric does not move.
4. Sew on the 19in side, half inch both sides securing the pillow. Once you put the fabric outside in, it all should measure 18inx18in.
I don't know what I was thinking when I took the pics, I promise when I sew the second pillow cover I will detail the pics. Bellow you can see a pattern I made to understand the chaotic steps I explained above.
I hope it helps.
